Negril’s Cayenne Beach will be the setting for the country’s longest running ganja and musical festival which will be held from Saturday, March 5 to Sunday, March 6, 2016. Now in its thirteenth year, the Stepping High Festival which is being staged by Stepping High Promotions Limited will showcase the island’s finest strains of cannabis and local and regional musical acts.

Unlike previous festivals this year will highlight a Canna fashion show, with apparel made primarily from hemp. In addition, patrons will be treated to dub poetry and health and wellness activities. Main feature of the festival will be two cannabis competitions to judge the highest quality of Jamaican ganja. The Best in the West, which is the first contest will have entrants from Western Jamaica, while the second, Nation’s Best, will show samples of the weed from across the island.

Stepping High Promotions Limited Director, Mrs Karlene Connell, says that although focus is placed on the competition, the festival is more than a ganja fest. “We have expanded it over the years to include other activities which show the use and benefits of cannabis.” There will also be a special surprise quips Connell, the launching of a Space Station, which she promises will be “a new experience for patrons.”

The event which attracts scores of visitors from across the Caribbean, the United Kingdom, United States, Germany and Israel, will feature the musical talents of several artistes including Akae Beka (Vaughn Benjamin of Midnight) from St Croix, performing for the first time in Jamaica, China Smith and Inna mi yard experience, Prof I, King Fragrance, Dann-I, Loyal Flames, and Cali P.

Stepping High began in 2003 as an underground event promoted primarily by word-of-mouth, and has over the years become an enviable brand. Festival gates open on Saturday from 12:00 PM to 2:00 AM and from 10:00 AM to Midnight on Sunday.
